Echo Park ; Photographic Study no.009 - November 2010
I am interested in the silence that takes place at night in major cities and how stillness occurs after the populous has settled.
It seems unfathomable that a metropolitan area with 15 million people, Los Angeles in this instance, can ever grow still.
A synchronized lull takes place nightly that is not unlike the high and low tide cycles of the oceans. While the freeways can
easily be related to rivers with their ebb and flow, the mass of citizens can also be recognized as a fluid body in both physical movement, conscience & subconscious activity.
This study attempts to capture the silence of Echo Park hills.
Echo Park is a Los Angeles neighborhood that is a mile from downtown LA and surrounded by freeways on three sides
(5 fwy / 101 fwy / 110 fwy). Echo Park has long been home to artists, writers and musicians as well as a working class Latino community.
